Funding and Donors: Harry's Help.
Message From Harry:
Hi, my name is Harry Townsend. I am 16 years old and am currently
studying for my AS levels at Sutton Valence School. Over the last
ten years I have suffered many problems with both my left and my
right ear. I have had two mastoid cyst operations, both lasting
6 and a half hours each.Without the incredible care I have been
given by the NHS, Bupa, and my ENT surgeon Mr. Gluckman, I might
have lost the hearing in my right ear.
Last summer I went on a month long trip to Nepal with my school
where we did some charity work, trekking, and spent a week helping
out and painting at a school deep in the mountains. This trip changed
my life forever and after seeing the children in this little mountain
town who had nothing just get on with life, it made me realise just
how lucky I am and how much I have, and how I want to give something
back.
BRINOS is a charity which is dedicated to the prevention and treatment
of deafness in Nepal.
A national survey found that 2.7 million out of a population of
19 million people in Nepal are significantly deaf, and out of that
2.7 million, 70% are children, and 61% have had no treatment at
all. What BRINOS does is it organises for British ENT’s to
go out to Nepal and to not only perform surgery on those who need
it, but train the Nepali surgeons how to perform the surgery.
In March 2010, I will be running the Hastings half marathon on
BRINOS’s behalf.
Thisi charity is very close to my heart because of my ear problems
and the help I’ve been given, and my expedition to Nepal last
summer and this is my way of trying to give something back. I am
determined to help raise awareness and money for this amazing charity
which is for a really great cause and want to give the Nepali children
the same level of care I have had. I will be more than grateful
for any donation of any size.
Please help in any way that you can. Thank you very much.

Two teams have just returned from our 39th and 40th
ear surgery camps in southwestern Nepal where 193 major ear operations
were performed in the space of two weeks.A specialist ear surgeon
in the UK would be unlikely to have the chance to experience this
workload in the space of one year'.
Best wishes, Neil Weir (Founder Director BRINOS)
